A simple approach to the complicated issue of allergies is to avoid exposure to things which irritate your already overactive immune system. This includes artificial colors and flavors. Studies have shown that non-allergic people suffer sometimes tremendous allergic reaction on consuming these artificial products.
An elimination diet is helpful in determining foods to which you may be allergic. After eliminating a food from your diet for two weeks add it back and see how you feel after eating it. It's best to eliminate all likely allergens at once to establish a non-allergenic baseline and then add eliminated foods back one per day. Most likely allergens include, wheat, dairy, eggs, corn, soy and peanuts. The baseline non-allergenic diet may safely include brown rice and steamed or baked vegetables. After long-term avoidance of foods to which you have been allergic it is often possible that those allergies will disappear and that you can enjoy that food freely, or at least in a limited manner.
Respiratory allergies or at least their symptoms can often be eliminated by the use of a nasal saline / salt water douche or neti pot.
