HIV / AIDS is an immune disease. Why do some people succumb to the virus while others remain uninfected or at least largely unaffected? Why do some people's immune systems work better? Genetics no doubt account for some of the answer. However, the strength of our immune system is most greatly determined by our day to day activities, including diet, exercise, nutrition and supplementation. For example, the basic component of our immune system, our white blood cells work 10 time as fast at fighting infections if they have an adequate amount of zinc. Also, excess consumption of sugar slows down our immune system. (See Immune Enhancement.) Stop doing what hurts you and do more of what enhances your immunological strength. It may be possible to smoke and drink with relative impunity when we are young, but these bad habits catch up with us as we age. The Chinese say that we possess only so much chi / life force; we can squander it or use it wisely. High quality nutrition is essential. I recommend a program of juicing and super foods and increasing consumption of raw foods. (See Diet.) A high quality supplement / multivitamin-mineral also helps replenish depleted tissues. High doses of vitamin C are a very good investment as are shitake mushrooms- best purchased dried and in bulk at an Asian market.(See Supplements.) Stress is a killer, bad for the immune system and other living things. A meditative attitude, enhanced by breathing techniques reduces stress and oxygenates your body and brain, another important factor in healing. (See Peace of Mind.) Detoxification through proper bowel health / elimination is essential and easy to achieve. (See Bowel Health.)
